Autopsies

The medical examiner orders autopsies for Arenac, Bay, Iosco, Midland and Tuscola Counties. The county medical examiner investigates the cause and manner of death of an individual if the death is caused by violence, is unexpected, or cannot be easily explained by natural causes.

Autopsy Report

Normal turnaround time for an autopsy report is 14-16 weeks after the autopsy is performed. Any request for a copy of an autopsy report made before the completion of the autopsy report will be held until finalization. Next of Kin of a deceased can request a copy of the report be sent to them when completed. All other requests need to be sent through FOIA (Freedom of Information Act). Visit the FOIA Request Center to access the public record portal in order to submit a FOIA request online.

Toxicology Report

The autopsy report is considered both the autopsy findings and the toxicology report. Partial reports will not be released. Any request made before both parts are completed will be held for final report.
